Falls on the outer rim of the caldera
A 60-meter-high waterfall pours over the volcanic rock (Sakanishi rhyolite) of the caldera's eastern wall. Because the stream originates in a small watershed in the caldera rim, water levels are low, and in the harsh winters the trickle freezes into a beautiful ice waterfall.

These falls are known for the fact that they freeze in winter – and for the crowds of photographers they draw during their most scenic season. The water cascades over Sakanishi rhyolite, which makes up a portion of the caldera's outer rim.
