Characteristic topography related to the formation of Nango Valley
Along the banks of the Shirakawa River in the western section of Nangodani Valley, the land steps away from the river in terraces that experts believe were formed by repeated lava flows to Tateno Gorge further downriver. The lava was deposited in the Shirakawa River Valley and dammed the flow of water.
