Waterfall formed by lava on the outer rim
These 20-meter-high falls are formed from pre-Aso Volcano rock dating back several hundred thousand years. A clearly visible cross-section of columnar joints forms the structure of the falls. This area marks the limit of pre-Aso rock distribution.
Shiraitonotaki Falls
Located in the southwest of the outer rim, this 20-meter-high waterfall features clearly visible columnar joints and a hard rock layer of pre-Aso Volcano andesite. A popular place to cool off in summer.
